From Chamber
President
Mark Eagan
Hello YPs: Our YPN mission is
to engage YPs and make them have more of a voice in this community
today and tomorrow.
To date, we’ve presented programs that help you develop personally
and professionally, as well as open the doors to new networking
opportunities with business leaders and peers. In 2007, we created
three work teams, in addition to our YPN Advisory Council, to gain
more input and involvement from YPs.
Thank you to all our volunteers who work
on these teams and to all of you who attend YPN programs. I’m happy to report that we have more than 800 YPs on
our
e-mail contact list. Best wishes for a successful 2007!
Mark Eagan, Chamber President
and CEO |

NEWS FROM
OUR WORK TEAMS
Civic
Engagement
The Civic Engagement Team works with local, regional and state
organizations to identify opportunities for YPs to have a voice and
become more engaged in the civic process. These organizations
include government, private and non-profit councils, committees,
boards, task groups (city planning, economic development, parks and
recreation, education, housing, quality of life, etc.), as well as
arts & lifestyle organizations (South Bend Civic Theatre, Symphony,
etc.).

Events
The
Events Team generates topic ideas for YPN events, identifies
speakers, provides suggestions for venues and coordinates other
event logistics, in conjunction with The Chamber. The team’s goal is
to provide events that will improve the development, retention and
attraction of YPs through education, awareness in community
involvement opportunities and networking with business and community
leaders. Contact me at
roysaenz44@yahoo.com with ideas for future
events, or if you would like to be a part of the team. Future topics
will tackle personal finance and the November mayoral elections.

Team Leader
Speakers Circle
The
Speakers Circle reaches out into the community, identifying
opportunities to speak about YPN, in addition to assisting the
Events team in obtaining speakers. In 2007, our short-term goal is
to speak to large and small groups at local companies, colleges and
community organizations which have an interest in learning about YPN
and its objective of developing, connecting and empowering YPs in
Michiana. The long-term goal of the team is to be the recognized
voice of YPN in Michiana. Please let us know if we can speak to any
group you think may want to learn more about YPN.

EVENTS RECAP
In March YPN focused an event on not-for-profit organizations in St.
Joseph County, giving YPs the chance to learn about 37 non-profits
in the area and find out how to get involved. This was followed up
with our inaugural Lunch ‘N Learn program, which centered on board
training and development. For those who are inspired and interested
in getting involved, please find numerous opportunities below!

COMMUNITY CORNER
The Contemporaries
is a new group affiliated with the South Bend Regional Museum of Art
that focuses on YPs and those interested in being exposed to and
learning about art in a casual social setting.
Their
inaugural event will take place
Saturday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the South Bend Regional Museum of
Art. The evening will celebrate the opening of the museum’s
blockbuster exhibition, "Duane Hanson: Real Life". Included will be
wine, unusual and artistic hors d'oeuvres and a brief discussion
about the exhibition. Danny Lerman and his band will cap off the
evening with jazz music. Contact
Melanie Zeitler at 574.235.9102 to
request discounted tickets to this event.
