NEWS FROM
OUR WORK TEAMS
Civic
Engagement
The Civic Engagement team is focusing much of their attention on the
formation of the YPN Web portal. This portal is being designed as a professional
Web site where YPs can connect with one another, share information and learn. The
team has received very positive feedback on this initiative and will provide
more details once it begins to take shape.
Also on the agenda is the
creation of a
"master plan" which will detail opportunities for young professionals to be involved in community affairs. This could mean finding and creating discounts for YPs, information on interesting
activities and various civic engagement opportunities.
To receive information from, or to provide input to, the Civic Engagement team, please contact Tania Bengtsson at
TBengtsson@gibsonins.com.

Public Relations
(formerly Speakers Circle)
The Public Relations Team has undergone many changes in the past few
months. Several
members have recently joined the team and together they have begun
working toward new priorities and goals.
Through sub-teams, these members are now working on the
e-newsletter and other YPN-related communications, collegiate
marketing for YPN membership, contacting local employers for
recruitment of their YP employees and identifying potential speakers
for future events.
The team is still seeking a few more members. If you have a
background in marketing, communications
or writing – or if you have a high interest level in these areas –
please contact team leader
Sonya Adams at
adamss@1stsource.com.
The next
meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18.

COMMUNITY CORNER
The City of South Bend’s Local Government Academy offers residents the opportunity to get up close and behind the scenes of local government at work!
The next session is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Applications for the
10-week course will be accepted until the class is full (a limit of 25 students) and registration is free.
The Local Government Academy provides community members the opportunity to explore a different aspect of city government each week, gaining a unique perspective on a 21st Century City in action, from the inside out. The sessions are held on Wednesday evenings for 10 weeks and will take participants inside city departments where they will be able to view operations, learn about policies and procedures, and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing local government today.
Sessions take place in the County-City Building and various city facilities.
Anyone interested may contact Stephanie Achterberg directly at 574.235.5859 for registration information or may register online at:
