Assess Your Job Fit

The March Lunch ‘N Learn
featured a presentation by
JoAnn Wittenbach on assessing your job fit. JoAnn explained
how Job Fit = Career Satisfaction, which is a combination of
Ability + Aspiration + Engagement.

To improve job fit, JoAnn suggests a two-step process:
      1.
Assess your ability, aspiration and engagement
      2. Define a development plan

In assessing your current skills, it’s important to be honest in defining your strengths and weaknesses. Once you’ve determined what they are, you can then define a personal development plan that helps to fill in the areas where you may need to grow professionally or personally. JoAnn recommends the following Web sites to help your personal assessment:

·  Kolbe A Index, www.Kolbe.com
      ·  Emotional Intelligence Assessment, www.myskillsprofile.com

·  Myers Briggs Type Inventory, www.discoveryourpersonality.com

READING CORNER

How to Think Big and Kick Ass
By Donald Trump & Bill Zanker

In light of the March Lunch ‘N Learn on Job Fit, and in the spirit of the upcoming May event on entrepreneurs, your Newsletter Team chose to spotlight Donald Trump’s latest book.

This book is not a cheesy, how to get rich quick recipe. Rather, it’s an honest call for self-assessment in order to determine your potential for happiness and financial success - in that order!

At the core of the book’s message is the need for each of us to find our passion in doing something useful for people and then acting on it. The Donald says it best: “Find a higher ground beyond the greedy exclusiveness of people who only care about money.”

It’s almost impossible to “bullet” the important points in this book, but we’ll give it our best shot:

    -          Never focus on the problem, always focus on the solution

-          Never, never give up

-          Never do anything just for the money

-          You must have passion in everything you do

-          Based on your experience, go with your gut, then make a
         decision and stick with it

-          The harder you work, the luckier you get

-          Value loyalty above everything else, and watch your back

-          When someone attacks you publicly, always strike back

-          Challenging yourself builds momentum, which attracts people
         to you

-          Focus, but not too much…be adaptable

-          Always think big
