Five Quick Landscape Tips for 2011
With a holiday coming up, get your planning on! John Foegley, owner of
Foegley Landscaping, has provided tips for 2011.
Good Luck!
Five Quick Landscape Tips for 2011
1. Amend your flower beds with compost prior to planting and
fertilize on a regular basis.
2. Use a pre-emergent weed control under mulch to reduce hand weeding during the
summer, unless you happen to like that type of work. Preen or similar products
are available at most garden centers.
3. Spray grasses and other weeds with Roundup or other post emergent weed
control. Many weeds will grow back from the root, so a post emergent weed killer
will take care of them once. You can hand apply with a cotton glove over a
rubber glove where you can’t spray.
4. If you have an automatic irrigation system, check your planting beds weekly
for saturated soils. Overwatering is actually more harmful than under watering in
many cases. If your system does not have a rain sensor, adding one is a good
idea. It can save lots of money and water when there is natural rainfall!
5. Get a design for landscape projects whenever possible. You can work on the
landscape as time and money allow and you will be sure things will look good
when it’s finished.
Have a good spring!

Book Review:
Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson
Change is inevitable. Those
who embrace and adapt to change will be more successful in all aspects of life;
personal or professional.
Who Moved My Cheese?
is a light-hearted, quick and easy read written by Spencer Johnson, M.D. In
under 100 pages, he offers “an amazing way to deal with change in your work and
your life” through the tale of two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two “little
people,” Hem and Haw (mouse-sized humans) all living happily together in a maze
until
one day, when someone moves the cheese in their maze.
Sniff and Scurry simply want their cheese and go about seeking it out. Hem and
Haw feel they are “owed” their cheese, and instead complain and resist the
obvious solution of looking elsewhere for cheese. After having their cheese
moved many times, Hem and Haw finally learn to adapt from Sniff and Scurry. The
cheese is a metaphor for any number of things in our lives from work to health
to relationships.
The bottom line is, change happens whether we want it to or not. Anticipating
and accepting change allows you the ability to more clearly see the positive
that can come from change. The next time you are faced with change, make a
conscious decision to move forward with the change and make it work for you.
Who Moved My Cheese?
can be read over a lunch hour or two. The simplistic story will leave you with a
meaningful perspective on how you should react the next time you come face to
face with change. Pick up a copy today before someone moves your cheese.
