Tell Us About Your Job
"I am a trial attorney specializing in criminal defense and business litigation. I represent all types of criminal defendants and industries. It is my duty to advocate for my clients and ensure that they are treated fairly throughout all phases of the criminal justice process, and for business clients to fight to protect their interests. I also teach at the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic and am a public defender for St. Joseph County."

Hobbies/Interests
"Traveling, mountain biking, yoga, spending time with my two-year-old daughter."

Something Most People Don't Know About You
"I quit my job at a Chicago law firm in 2004 to travel around the world with a backpack for over six months."

What Do You Think Are The Biggest Issues Facing Young Professionals Today?
"I think many young professionals struggle finding the types of opportunities they seek here in the South Bend area and feel compelled to leave town for larger markets, thus creating a drain of talent. This area has so much to offer, but unfortunately, sometimes people have to leave in order to gain perspective on its benefits to have something to compare it to."

URBAN ADVENTURE GAMES 2010
a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience

Michiana area residents and visitors looking for a reason to head outdoors and experience the city of South Bend in a fast-paced, energy-infused way can do so by participating in the second annual Urban Adventure Games.

Games take place on Saturday, July 31, 2010 and include a unique race which combines an athletic competition with a city-wide scavenger hunt, in addition to a cornhole tournament and after party. Registration for the 2010 Urban Adventure Games is now available online at www.urbanadventuregames.com and will be open through July 29.

Starting and ending at Coveleski Stadium, the second annual Urban Adventure Games race will lead participants through the city of South Bend from checkpoint to checkpoint, testing them both physically and mentally. Participants will bike, run, paddle, climb and even fly throughout the city, while simultaneously finding hidden clues, answering trivia questions and completing tasks along the way.

Race participants can make the day as challenging or as fun as they want with four new levels of competition this year. Divisions include the Open Division, Elite Division for more extreme athletes, Junior Division for youth under the age of 18 and a Family Division.

This year’s Urban Adventure Games have also expanded to include a cornhole tournament and after party. These event additions allow even more opportunities for individuals and families to take part in the Urban Adventure Games without having to compete in the race.

Culture Shock: South Bend Civic Theatre
Performance of Rent

6:30 p.m. - Pre-Show Networking at The Vine
8:00 p.m. - Show Time
South Bend Civic Theatre
$16 per person - Special YPN Rate

At 6:30 p.m., meet fellow YPs and friends for some networking and drinks at The Vine, 103 W. Colfax in South Bend. At 7:30, we’ll make our way over to the South Bend Civic Theatre where stage curtains will open at 8:00 p.m. for the performance of Rent.

In the show, seven friends struggle through the tumultuous challenges of our time — a world where dreams survive muggings and starvation, where friendships withstand homelessness, where AIDS and abiding love live side by side, where drugs and sex are tempting distractions from life’s harsh realities… but, finally, where guardian angels still exist. Incredible music, absorbing story, fascinating characters … A surging, life-confirming powerhouse of a musical, loosely based on the heart-pounding story from La Boheme.

LOCAL EDUCATION & YOU

Regardless of where you live in Michiana, local education both directly and indirectly impacts your quality of life.

Recognizing the importance of education in our community, The Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County is leading an initiative to identify the strongest candidates to serve on the South Bend School Corporation's Board of School Trustees. It is critical that we as young professionals become engaged in this effort and assist in getting the very best leaders elected in 2010.

Please mark your calendars for these important upcoming events:

  • August 16 - South Bend School Board Meeting

  • August 19 - Power Lunch with panel discussion on the impact of education and business

  • September 1 - School Board Candidates Forum

VOLUNTEER

United Way

Put your development skills to work! The United Way of St. Joseph County is seeking YP volunteers to dedicate 20-30 hours over a four to five month period contacting local businesses and individuals.

The ultimate goal is to educate prospective donors about the United Way and its funded agencies. Volunteers will also be trained on best practices when soliciting contributions and learn how they can assist companies in establishing and running an employee campaign. If you are interested in this opportunity, e-mail Greg Downes or call him at 574.245.3502.

Additional information on the United Way of St. Joseph County is available online at www.uwsjc.org.
