YPN has been asked to spearhead the Friday festivities, and we need volunteers on the Block Party/Concert/Fireworks Committee. This is an all-day event beginning at noon! The next committee meeting is March 30 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Crowe Horwath Training Center. Contact Cathy Raven or Kelly Kimmich for more information. Friday will also feature the Ribs Cook-Off from noon – 7:00 p.m. This event features the Kansas City BBQ Society, which has added South Bend to its 2009 Great American BBQ Tour! To learn more or assist on this committee, contact Becky Hayden. Saturday kicks-off with an Urban Adventure! It's a crazy, wacky event that involves biking, running, walking, nature trails, the East Race Waterway, climbing, ropes and mystery events. This committee needs more volunteers! The next meeting is a breakfast meeting at The Chamber of Commerce on March 23 from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. E-mail JV Peacock to RSVP for their next meeting! The parade on Saturday also needs more volunteers. Contact Lisa Malin to volunteer for the Parade Committee.
Junior Achievement of Michiana is sponsoring Bowl for Education Saturday, March 28 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Strikes and Spares. The event helps Junior Achievement deliver financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs to over 8,300 students in Michiana annually. Teams are comprised of five bowlers and each participant is encouraged to raise $75 in donations. For each $75 raised, that individual will be entered into the grand prize drawing. Door prizes are also available. Contact Nick Dalton at
ndalton@michianaja.org to register.

The Last Lecture On September 18, 2007, a computer science professor named Randy Pausch delivered a last lecture named “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” to 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University. Pausch, husband and father of three, began the lecture by showing CT scans of his cancerous pancreas and announcing that he had been given only months to live. The Last Lecture is an uplifting book, not about dying or fighting cancer, but about living. Pausch clicks through a slideshow of personal photos, diagrams and videos and gives advice on:

Two YPN work teams are seeking volunteers. The Marketing Team is seeking two additional team members. A background in marketing or public relations would be helpful. Previous involvement in YPN events is also preferred. Contact team leader Andrea Deitchley to volunteer. The Outreach Team is in need of three to four new team members to assist with connecting with community organizations for board/volunteer opportunities and to find local arts/culture events of interest to YPs. Contact Tania Bengtsson for more details.
