WHAT'S YOUR RESOLUTION?

Happy New Year! Whether you are striving to reach personal or professional goals in 2009, we hope YPN can play a small part in helping you succeed. Here are some resolutions made this year by some of your fellow YPs:

To help those who lost their jobs in the recent recession.
     - Jason Schultz, Baker & Daniels

To keep growing my business and double the size of our team by the
end of the year! - Mike Niedbalski, Integritas Search, LLC

I would like to do at least 10 minutes of some kind of exercise each
day, make time for God every day, work smarter toward eliminating
debt and schedule time for myself and the things I love to do.
     - Suzzy Wilmore, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center

My New Year's resolution is to remember that each day is a blessing and
to make the most of my time with my family and friends.
     - Denise Patterson, March of Dimes

To be more active and to spend more time with my immediate family
and soon to be in-laws. It is so self-satisfying to do this and I will
prevail!  It makes the people I interact with as well as myself feel better
about life in general. - Stacey Reed, CB Richard Ellis | Bradley

Learn how to cook! - Jacqueline Kronk, Center for the Homeless

Get healthy and put myself first!
      - Jen Hopper, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center

True North: Discover Your Authentic Leadership
By: Bill George

Written by the former CEO of Medtronic and current Harvard Business School professor Bill George, this book is a guide to discovering "the internal compass that guides you through life." The book is also being read by this year's Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka class!

George's book features interviews with 125 executives who share failures as well as successes. The book explains how failures, emotional challenges, personal tragedies and regrets all influence the direction we take as leaders and as a result, there is no single way to become an ideal leader.

Perhaps the most useful part of True North is its explanation of the five key facets of a leadership plan. They are:

  1. Knowing your authentic self

  2. Defining your values and leadership principles

  3. Understanding your motivations

  4. Building your support team

  5. Staying grounded by integrating all aspects of your life

Ryan Fenstermaker of 1st Source Bank and vice chair of the YPN Advisory Council appeared on WNIT's Economic Outlook program which aired December 26.

The show examined the successes of the Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka program over the past 34 years, as well as how it has improved quality of life and helped to retain corporate talent in the area.

“It was a great opportunity to share the benefits of the Leadership program as a young professional and as a member of YPN,” said Ryan about the experience.

Ryan appeared with Juliann Jankowski, executive director of the Leadership program, and Tim Sexton, vice president of community development for Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Click here to be taken to the Economic Outlook Web page and go to Episode #407 to view the full episode.

We want to share your successes! E-mail Lindahl Wiegand if you’d like to share your latest professional news or would like to recognize a fellow YP.
