YP SPOTLIGHT

Chad McDonald

Employer
Christine Lauber, Certified Public Accountant

Position Title
Customer Service Manager

Hometown
South Bend

Years in the Local Area
33 years – attended Stanley Clark, Adams High School and Indiana University South Bend

Position Responsibilities
& Duties
Since 2004, Chad has been a service manager in a CPA firm helping small businesses and not-for-profits improve their financial positions and performance. He performs audits, as well as tax preparation and general consulting for clients.

Hobbies/Interests
“I live for baseball in the summer. Go Cubs! I have also been selected by the Indiana CPA Society to join the Leadership and Governance Task Force of the Emerging Leaders Alliance. This group is made up of YPs in the CPA profession, with a desire to be involved in leading the Society and the profession.”

Something Most People Don’t Know About You
“I am the father of 3 ½ year-old twin daughters. That’s right. They amaze and completely frustrate me every day. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in this world.”

Career Advice to YPs
“I believe you have to care about someone before you can help them. If you don’t understand their fears and frustrations, you cannot get to the real root of their problems; you may only be treating the symptoms. You have to make their problem your problem. Through the process you build a relationship rooted in trust. I take this approach with all of my clients and even in my personal relationships.”

Best Wishes

Mark Eagan
, current president and CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County, has accepted a new position at the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce in New York. His last day is October 2. We wish him the very best, as he was instrumental in getting YPN off the ground. A search committee has been formed and an executive search firm contracted to help fill the position, which is anticipated to take 90 to 120 days. Current YPN Chair and Chamber board member Cathy Raven is serving on the search committee, so YPN will have great representation.

Congrats
Congratulatio
ns to YPN advisory council member Tania Bengtsson and her husband on the birth of their precious daughter, Reese. All are
doing well.

COMMUNITY CORNER

   Volunteer to Save a Life
Evidenced by recent media attention, many animal rescue and adoption organizations are experiencing an influx of animals in need of homes. If you aren’t able to adopt a pet, consider volunteering your time or financial support. Most local organizations have Web sites that identify various ways to get involved; some even have foster opportunities, kennel sponsorships and supply “wish lists.” Take time to visit and compare each Web site to choose which organization resonates with you personally.

READING CORNER

No More Mondays: Fire Yourself
By: Dan Miller

Are you looking for a way to replace the dread associated with Mondays? Wouldn’t it be great to warmly embrace each week’s challenges ahead? Dan Miller’s book is both entertaining and informative. The book is full of inspiring advice on how to find fulfilling work in an uncertain age.

  • We must recognize the job market has changed and that most of us cannot rely on working hard and retiring in one company as our grandparents did.

  • The number of traditional jobs will continue to shrink, so look proactively for the “off-the-grid” opportunities.

  • Channel your creativity and play to your passions and strengths, as well as your relational skills, on any job to open doors in your career.

  • Are you an “Eaglepreneur?” It’s a lifestyle Miller says is appropriate for our modern times, creating financial success while building quality of life.

  • Draw on strengths you’ve neglected and you’ll find work that pays the bills, satisfies you and will eliminate the “Monday dread!”
