NEWS FROM
OUR WORK TEAMS
Civic
Engagement
You’ve heard talk about the YPN Web portal in the past and
now things are really moving forward and taking shape. This past month, the
Civic Engagement team decided on and received approval for the domain name of
www.ypnconnect.com. This new portal will one day be a professional Web site
where YPs can connect, share information and learn from each other. Reserving
the domain name is the first step in an exciting venture for the YPN Civic
Engagement team and all YPs in the Michiana region.
To receive information or to provide input to the Civic Engagement team, please
contact team leader Tania Bengtsson at
TBengtsson@gibsonins.com.

Events Team
YPN celebrated its
second anniversary with Museum Plunge 2007 on Thursday, August 23. Over 100
people came out to the Center for History and Studebaker National Museum for a
night of networking, food and music! A special thanks to Sarah Hoshaw, Ben
Jonas and Autumn Gill for their hard work in coordinating this event.
Click here to view pictures from the evening.
The next signature YPN event will be the Candidates Forum on October 3. Join us at
the South Bend Civic Theatre from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. to hear from South Bend and
Mishawaka mayoral candidates. Questions posed to the candidates will be from
young professionals like you. Have a question you would like the candidates to
address? E-mail PR team leader Sonya Adams at
adamss@1stsource.com.

Team Leader (roysaenz44@yahoo.com)
Public Relations
The Public Relations team has launched a new campaign to raise
awareness about YPN among local businesses and their young
professionals. The campaign has been named Bagels in the Boardroom
and is an informal networking time where YPN representatives visit
a company to casually network with other YPs, sharing more
about YPN and how to get involved. Of course, as the name
implies, food is also involved! The PR team has already conducted
several Bagels in the Boardroom events and had great success.
If you would like to have a Bagels in the Boardroom event at your
company or want to represent YPN at one of these events,
contact PR team leader Sonya Adams at
adamss@1stsource.com for
more details.

“Tipping Point
Leadership” By W. Chan Kim & Renee Mauborgne Harvard Business
Review - April 1, 2003
Review Provided by Cathy Raven, Crowe Chizek and Company LLC:
When people are
accustomed to doing things a certain way, change is something they
tend to resist. However, the ability to change and adapt is critical
to the growth and success of any organization. According to the
tipping theory of change, fundamental changes can occur quickly when
the beliefs and energies of a critical mass of people create an
epidemic movement toward an idea. The theory of tipping points
suggests that such a movement can be propelled by leaders who act as
change agents. These leaders make persuasive calls for change,
concentrate their resources on what really matters, mobilize the
commitment of the organization's key players and succeed in
silencing change’s most vocal opponents.
Leaders who are looking to become change agents need to consider and
deal with four main hurdles. The tipping point theory outlines a
continuous process of overcoming these four hurdles in order to
bring about rapid, dramatic and lasting change with limited
resources.
