Transportation
Welcome to North Central Indiana. At 467 square miles St.
Joseph County is the fourth largest county in Indiana. We
are easily accessible from U.S. 31, running north and south,
and I-80/90 (the Indiana Toll Road) which intersects the county
from east to west. Other state highways and county routes
offer ample routes to and fro.
With
St. Joseph County’s location just 90 miles outside Chicago,
we offer businesses a wealth of complementary
transportation options. The South Bend Regional Airport
supports commercial carriers and private corporate jets into
the area. Flights out of South Bend connect to hubs like
Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. Four rail
services and the Port of Indiana at Burns International
Harbor just 60 miles northwest, see that product reaches
international destinations in a timely manner.
The
area also boasts public transportation bus routes and
inter-city rail service. Located at the South Bend Regional
Airport, the South Shore Commuter Railroad is an electric
commuter line that connects the area to Chicago.
