A fine group of local
school corporations, mixed with a remarkable number of
colleges and universities, makes St. Joseph County an
educational epicenter.
St. Joseph County offers
six school districts: South Bend Community School
Corporation, School City of Mishawaka, Penn-Harris-Madison
School Corporation, New Prairie United School Corporation,
Union-North United School Corporation and the John Glenn
School Corporation. Private schools cover the gamut from
bilingual programs to curriculum designed for gifted
students.
To register your
child for public school, make sure you bring your child’s
birth certificate, proof of home address (mortgage, deed,
rental lease, utility bill, etc.), proof of immunization and
name of school in which your child was previously enrolled.
The county also boasts
major colleges and universities and technical schools –
University of Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend,
Saint Mary’s College, Bethel College, Indiana Tech and more.
Whether studying business, law, health care, engineering or
liberal arts, there is an educational institution that
matches your curriculum needs.
